Bamboo plant is growing in a far forest then what will be the trophic level of it ?

  1. Second trophic level (T2)
  2. First trophic level (T1)
  3. Fourth trophic level (T4)
  4. Third trophic level (T3)

Answer

(2) First trophic level (T1)

Solution

A bamboo plant is a green plant, i.e. an autotroph that makes its own food by photosynthesis.

As per NCERT, producers (plants) belong to the first trophic level, herbivores (primary consumers) to the second and carnivores to the third.

⇒ The trophic level depends only on the organism's position in the food chain, not on where it grows.

∴ Bamboo occupies the first trophic level (T1).
