What is the direction of micropyle in anatropous ovule?

  1. Upwards
  2. Downward
  3. Right
  4. Left

Answer

(2) Downward

Solution

In an anatropous ovule the body of the ovule is completely inverted (turned through 180 ) on the funicle.

⇒ The micropyle comes to lie close to the funicle and the hilum, facing downward towards the placenta, while the chalaza faces upward (as in the NCERT figure of a typical anatropous ovule).

∴ The micropyle in an anatropous ovule is directed downward.
