Secondary Succession takes place on/in :

  1. Newly created pond
  2. Newly cooled lava
  3. Bare rock
  4. Degraded forest

Answer

(4) Degraded forest

Solution

As per NCERT, primary succession begins in areas where no living organisms ever existed, e.g., newly cooled lava, bare rock, newly created pond or reservoir.

⇒ Secondary succession begins in areas where natural biotic communities have been destroyed, such as abandoned farm lands, burned or cut forests and lands that have been flooded.

∵ Soil (sediment) is already present there, secondary succession is faster than primary succession.

∴ Secondary succession takes place in a degraded forest.

Answer: (4)
