Male gametes are flagellated in

  1. Ectocarpus
  2. Spirogyra
  3. Polysiphonia
  4. Anabaena.

Answer

(1) Ectocarpus

Solution

As per NCERT, in Phaeophyceae (brown algae) the gametes are pyriform (pear-shaped) and bear two laterally attached flagella; Ectocarpus is a brown alga.

⇒ Spirogyra (Chlorophyceae) reproduces sexually by conjugation of non-flagellated gametes.

⇒ Polysiphonia (Rhodophyceae): red algae have non-motile gametes.

⇒ Anabaena is a cyanobacterium (prokaryote) with no gametes.

∴ Male gametes are flagellated in Ectocarpus.
