Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 22 January (Morning Shift)

Given below are two statements : In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.

  1. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  2. Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  3. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
  4. Statement I is false but Statement II is true

Answer

(1) Both Statement I and Statement II are false

Solution

Statement I says one VSD is ALWAYS smaller than one MSD.

Usual vernier: N VSD =(N-1) MSD ⇒ 1 VSD < 1 MSD; but in an extended vernier (N VSD =(2N-1) MSD) 1 VSD > 1 MSD ⇒ 'always' is wrong ⇒ Statement I false.

Vernier constant = 1 MSD - 1 VSD = 1 MSDN: divided by N, not multiplied ⇒ Statement II false.

Answer: (1)

Note: The official NTA answer key gives option (2). Our faculty team has re-checked this question and finds option (1) correct, as explained above.
