In which of the following plants sunken stomata are found?

  1. Nerium
  2. Hydrilla
  3. Mango
  4. Guava

Answer

(1) Nerium

Solution

Sunken stomata lie in pits (stomatal crypts) below the level of the epidermis and are often covered by hairs; they reduce the rate of transpiration.

They are a xerophytic adaptation. Nerium (oleander) is a xerophyte whose leaves bear stomata in sunken crypts on the lower surface.

Hydrilla is a submerged hydrophyte (stomata absent or non-functional); mango and guava are mesophytes with normal stomata.

∴ Sunken stomata are found in Nerium.
