Which one of the following statements is wrong?

  1. Uracil is a pyrimidine.
  2. Glycine is a sulphur containing amino acid.
  3. Sucrose is a disaccharide.
  4. Cellulose is a polysaccharide.

Answer

(2) Glycine is a sulphur containing amino acid.

Solution

As per NCERT, glycine is the simplest amino acid, in which the R group is a hydrogen atom (H2N–CH2–COOH); it contains no sulphur.

∵ Sulphur-containing amino acids are cysteine and methionine, statement (2) is wrong.

∵ Uracil is a pyrimidine, sucrose a disaccharide and cellulose a polysaccharide, statements (1), (3) and (4) are correct.

Answer: (2)
