The logistic population growth is expressed by the equation:

  1. dt/dN = Nr ( K-NK )
  2. dN/dt = rN ( K-NK )
  3. dN/dt = rN ( N-KN )
  4. dN/dt = rN

Answer

(2) dN/dt = rN ( K-NK )

Solution

As per NCERT, a population growing in a habitat with limited resources shows logistic (Verhulst–Pearl) growth, described by

dNdt = rN ( K-NK )

where N = population density at time t, r = intrinsic rate of natural increase and K = carrying capacity.

dN/dt = rN describes exponential growth (unlimited resources).

Answer: (2)
