The age pyramid with broad base indicates :

  1. high percentage of young individuals
  2. high percentage of old individuals
  3. a stable population
  4. low percentage of young individuals

Answer

(1) high percentage of young individuals

Solution

As per NCERT, an age pyramid shows the pre-reproductive, reproductive and post-reproductive individuals of a population; its shape reflects the growth status.

⇒ A triangular pyramid with a broad base (expanding population) indicates a large number of pre-reproductive, i.e. young, individuals.

⇒ A bell-shaped pyramid indicates a stable population and an urn-shaped (narrow base) pyramid a declining population.

∴ A broad base indicates a high percentage of young individuals.
