If three letters can be posted to any one of the 5 different addresses, then the probability that the three letters are posted to exactly two addresses is :

Answer

(2) 1225

Solution

∵ each letter has 5 choices ⇒ total ways = 53 = 125

Choose the two addresses: 5C2 = 10

Post 3 letters to these 2 so that both are used: 23 - 2 = 6 (all-to-one-address cases removed)

Favourable = 10 6 = 60

∴ Probability = 60125 = 1225
