Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 9 April (Evening Shift)

Match List I with List II Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III
  2. A-I, B-II, C-III, D-IV
  3. A-III, B-IV, C-I, D-II
  4. A-II, B-III, C-IV, D-I

Answer

(1) A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III

Solution

A. Melting point (K): B 2453 > Al 933 > Tl 577 > In 430 > Ga 303, so A is IV

B. M3+ radius increases down the group: Tl > In > Ga > Al > B, so B is I

C. iH1 (kJ mol-1): B 801 > Tl 589 > Ga 579 ≈ Al 577 > In 558, so C is II

D. Atomic radius (pm): Tl 170 > In 167 > Al 143 > Ga 135 > B 85 (Ga < Al because of poor shielding by 3d electrons), so D is III

∴ A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III
