Which one of the following hormones is not involved in sugar metabolism?

  1. Insulin
  2. Glucagon
  3. Cortisone
  4. Aldosterone

Answer

(4) Aldosterone

Solution

As per NCERT, insulin (hypoglycaemic) and glucagon (hyperglycaemic) regulate blood glucose level, and glucocorticoids (cortisol, cortisone) stimulate gluconeogenesis, lipolysis and proteolysis.

∵ Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid; it acts mainly at the renal tubules and stimulates the reabsorption of Na+ and water and the excretion of K+ and phosphate ions.

∴ Aldosterone is not involved in sugar metabolism.
