Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 29 January (Evening Shift)

If the distance between object and its two times magnified virtual image produced by a curved mirror is 15 cm, the focal length of the mirror must be:

  1. -10 cm
  2. -12 cm
  3. 15 cm
  4. 10/3 cm

Answer

(1) -10 cm

Solution

Magnified virtual image concave mirror, image behind the mirror.

Let u=-x; m=- vu=+2 v=+2x

Object–image distance: x+2x=15 x=5 cm

u=-5 cm, v=+10 cm

1f= 1v+ 1u= 110- 15=- 110

f=-10 cm

Only a concave mirror (object within f) gives an erect, magnified virtual image.
