What happens if bone of frog is kept in dilute hydrochloric acid?
- Will become flexible
- Will turn black
- Will break into pieces
- Will shrink
Answer
(1) Will become flexible
Solution
As per NCERT, bone has a hard and non-pliable ground substance rich in calcium salts and collagen fibres.
⇒ Dilute HCl dissolves the calcium salts (decalcification): Ca3(PO4)2 + 6HCl 3CaCl2 + 2H3PO4
⇒ Only the organic matrix (collagen fibres) is left behind.
∴ The bone becomes soft and flexible.
