Which one of the following is wrongly matched?

  1. Spirogyra - Motile gametes
  2. Sargassum - Chlorophyll
  3. Basidiomycetes - Puffballs
  4. Nostoc - Water blooms

Answer

(1) Spirogyra - Motile gametes

Solution

Spirogyra reproduces sexually by conjugation, in which the gametes are non-motile (amoeboid); the contents of one cell pass through a conjugation tube into the other.

∴ " Spirogyra - Motile gametes" is wrongly matched.

∵ As per NCERT, Sargassum (brown alga) has chlorophyll a and c along with fucoxanthin, puffballs are basidiomycetes, and cyanobacteria like Nostoc often form blooms in polluted water bodies, options (2), (3) and (4) are correct.
