Cell elongation in internodal regions of the green plants takes place due to

  1. indole acetic acid
  2. cytokinins
  3. gibberellins
  4. ethylene.

Answer

(3) gibberellins

Solution

As per NCERT, gibberellins cause an increase in length of axis; they are used to increase the length of grapes stalks.

⇒ Gibberellins promote bolting, i.e., internode elongation just prior to flowering, in beet, cabbages and many plants with rosette habit.

∵ Cytokinins mainly promote cell division, ethylene promotes horizontal growth / senescence, and auxin (IAA) mainly acts on apical growth and rooting.

∴ Cell elongation in the internodal regions is due to gibberellins.
