A sagittal section of human brain is shown here. Identify at least two labels from A-D. [Figure]

  1. A-Cerebral hemispheres, B-Cerebellum
  2. B-Corpus callosum, D-Medulla
  3. C-Mid brain, D-Cerebellum
  4. A-Cerebrum, C-Pons

Answer

(4) A-Cerebrum, C-Pons

Solution

In the figure, A marks the cerebral hemisphere (cerebrum), the large convoluted upper part of the forebrain.

C marks the pons, the bulged part of the hindbrain lying in front of the cerebellum, above the medulla.

∴ B is not the cerebellum (the cerebellum is the folded mass at the back), C is not the mid brain and D is not the cerebellum.

As per NCERT, the hindbrain comprises pons, cerebellum and medulla; the cerebrum forms the major part of the brain.

⇒ A-Cerebrum and C-Pons are correctly identified.

Answer: (4)
