The heat generated in 1 minute between points A and B in the given circuit, when a battery of 9 V with internal resistance of 1 is connected across these points is J. [figure]

Answer

1080

Solution

Let the junction of the 1 and 2 resistors in the upper branch be C and that of the 2 and 4 resistors in the lower branch be D.

RACRCB = 12 and RADRDB = 24 = 12

The Wheatstone bridge is balanced, so no current flows through the 1 resistor between C and D.

RAB = (1 + 2)(2 + 4)(1 + 2) + (2 + 4) = 3 69 = 2

Current from the battery: I = ERAB + r = 92 + 1 = 3 A

Heat generated between A and B in t = 60 s:

H = I2 RAB t = 32 2 60

H = 1080 J

Answer: 1080
