Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 5 April (Evening Shift)

A particle moves in x-y plane under the influence of a force F such that its linear momentum is p(t) = i (kt) - j (kt). If k is constant, the angle between F and p will be :

  1. 2
  2. 3
  3. 4
  4. 6

Answer

(1) 2

Solution

F = d pdt = -k (kt) i - k (kt) j

F p = -k (kt) (kt) + k (kt) (kt) = 0

F p, angle = 2

| p| = 2 kt + 2 kt = 1 is constant, the force only turns p (like uniform circular motion).
