A man throws balls with the same speed vertically upwards one after the other at an interval of 2 seconds. What should be the speed of the throw so that more than two balls are in the sky at any time ? (Given g = 9.8 m/s2)
- more than 19.6 m/s
- at least 9.8 m/s
- any speed less than 19.6 m/s
- only with speed 19.6 m/s.
Answer
(1) more than 19.6 m/s
Solution
Balls are thrown every 2 s. For more than two balls to be in the air at any time, each ball must stay in the air for more than 2 2 = 4 s.
Time of flight: T = 2ug
⇒ 2ug > 4
⇒ u > 2g
= 2 9.8
= 19.6 m/s
∴ The speed of throw must be more than 19.6 m/s.
