Among the following characters, which one was not considered by Mendel in his experiments on pea?

  1. Stem-Tall or dwarf
  2. Pod-Inflated or constricted
  3. Trichomes-Glandular or non-glandular
  4. Seed-Green or yellow

Answer

(3) Trichomes-Glandular or non-glandular

Solution

As per NCERT, Mendel studied seven pairs of contrasting traits in pea: stem height (tall/dwarf), flower colour (violet/white), flower position (axial/terminal), pod shape (inflated/constricted), pod colour (green/yellow), seed shape (round/wrinkled) and seed colour (yellow/green).

∴ Trichomes (glandular or non-glandular) were not among Mendel's characters.

A cell at telophase stage is observed by a student in a plant brought from the field. He tells his teacher that this cell is not like other cells at telophase stage. There is no formation of cell plate and thus the cell is containing more number of chromosomes as compared to other dividing cells. This would result in -

  1. Polyteny
  2. Aneuploidy
  3. Polyploidy
  4. Somaclonal variation

In a testcross involving F1 dihybrid flies, more parental-type offspring were produced than the recombinant-type offspring. This indicates

  1. Both of the characters are controlled by more than one gene
  2. The two genes are linked and present on the same chromosome
  3. The two genes are located on two different chromosomes
  4. Chromosomes failed to separate during meiosis
