Aestivation of petals in the flower of cotton is correctly shown in
- [figure]

- [figure]
- [figure]
Answer
(2) [figure]
Solution
As per NCERT, in twisted aestivation one margin of each appendage overlaps that of the next one and so on, as in china rose, lady's finger and cotton.
(1) Petals only touch at the margins without overlapping ⇒ valvate.
(2) Each petal overlaps the next one in a regular direction ⇒ twisted.
(3) One large standard, two wings and two keel petals ⇒ vexillary.
(4) Overlapping not in any particular direction ⇒ imbricate.
∴ Cotton shows twisted aestivation, as in figure (2).
