Which of the following statements is true for lymph?

  1. WBC + serum
  2. Blood - RBCs and some proteins
  3. RBCs + WBCs + plasma
  4. RBCs + proteins + platelets

Answer

(2) Blood - RBCs and some proteins

Solution

As per NCERT, as blood passes through the capillaries, some water along with many small water-soluble substances moves out into the spaces between the cells, leaving the larger proteins and most of the formed elements in the blood vessels. This fluid is interstitial fluid or tissue fluid (lymph).

⇒ Lymph has the same mineral distribution as plasma and contains specialised lymphocytes, but no RBCs and fewer proteins.

∴ Lymph = blood - RBCs and some proteins.
