Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 29 January (Evening Shift)

In the Claisen-Schmidt reaction to prepare dibenzalacetone from 5.3 g of benzaldehyde, a total of 3.51 g of product was obtained. The percentage yield in this reaction was %.

Answer

60

Solution

Claisen–Schmidt: 2 PhCHO (no -H) + acetone dibenzalacetone.

[figure]

212 g (2 mol) PhCHO give 234 g product

⇒ 5.3 g give 5.3 234212=5.85 g

Yield = 3.515.85 100=60\%

Answer: 60
