Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 4 April (Evening Shift)

Correct formula for height of a satellite from earth's surface is :

  1. ( T2R2g4 2 )1/3 - R
  2. ( T2R2g4 )1/2 - R
  3. ( T2R2g4 2 )-1/3 + R
  4. ( T2R24 2g )1/3 - R

Answer

(1) ( T2R2g4 2 )1/3 - R

Solution

T2 = 4 2GM(R + h)3

gravity gives the centripetal force: GMm(R + h)2 = m 2(R + h), and GM = gR2

(R + h)3 = T2R2g4 2

h = ( T2R2g4 2 )1/3 - R

Answer: (1)
