Wildlife is continuously decreasing. What is the main reason of this ?

  1. Cutting down of forest
  2. Predation
  3. Hunting
  4. Destruction of habitat

Answer

(4) Destruction of habitat

Solution

As per NCERT, the causes of biodiversity loss are the 'Evil Quartet': habitat loss and fragmentation, over-exploitation, alien species invasions and co-extinctions.

⇒ Habitat loss and fragmentation is the most important cause driving animals and plants to extinction.

∵ Cutting down of forests is only one way in which habitats are destroyed; hunting and predation affect fewer species.

∴ The main reason for the decrease of wildlife is destruction of habitat.
