Position of non-polar and polar part in micelle
- polar at outer surface but non-polar at inner surface
- polar at inner surface but non-polar at outer surface
- distributed over all the surface
- are present in the surface only
Answer
(1) polar at outer surface but non-polar at inner surface
Solution
A soap/detergent ion has a polar (ionic) head, e.g. -COO-, and a long non-polar hydrocarbon tail.
As per NCERT, in a micelle the hydrocarbon tails point towards the centre (away from water) while the polar ionic heads lie on the surface in contact with water.
∴ Polar part is at the outer surface and non-polar part is at the inner surface.
