Arrange the following steps of somatic hybridisation in a correct sequence. Choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. D, B, A, E, C
  2. E, A, B, C, D
  3. E, B, A, D, C
  4. D, A, B, C, E

Answer

(4) D, A, B, C, E

Solution

Steps of somatic hybridisation:

D ⇒ single cells are isolated from the two different varieties of plants.

A ⇒ their cell walls are digested (by pectinase and cellulase).

B ⇒ naked protoplasts are isolated.

C ⇒ protoplasts of the two varieties are fused to get a hybrid protoplast.

E ⇒ the hybrid protoplast is grown to form a new plant (somatic hybrid, e.g. pomato).

∴ Correct sequence: D, A, B, C, E
