Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 9 April (Evening Shift)

[figure] In the given TLC, the distance of spot A & B are 5 cm & 7 cm, from the bottom of TLC plate, respectively. Rf value of B is x 10-1 times more than A. The value of x is .

Answer

15

Solution

Rf = distance moved by the substance from the base linedistance moved by the solvent from the base line

The base line is 1 cm above the bottom and the solvent front 1 cm below the top of the 10 cm plate, so every distance is measured from 1 cm:

[figure]

(Rf)A = 5 - 19 - 1 = 48 = 0.5 and (Rf)B = 7 - 19 - 1 = 68 = 0.75

(Rf)B(Rf)A = 0.750.5 = 1.5 = 15 10-1

∴ x = 15

Answer: 15
