An ac current is represented as i = 5 2 + 10 (650 t + 6 ) Amp The r.m.s. value of the current is

  1. 10 Amp
  2. 5 2 Amp
  3. 100 Amp
  4. 50 Amp

Answer

(1) 10 Amp

Solution

i = I1 + I0 ( t + ) with I1 = 5 2 A (dc part), I0 = 10 A

irms2 = i2 = I12 + 2I1 I0 ( t + ) + I02 2( t + )

( t + ) = 0 and 2( t + ) = 12

irms2 = 50 + 1002 = 100

irms = 10 A

Answer: (1)
