Hormones secreted by the placenta to maintain pregnancy are

  1. hCG, hPL, progestogens, prolactin
  2. hCG, hPL, estrogens, relaxin, oxytocin
  3. hCG, hPL, progestogens, estrogens
  4. hCG, progestogens, estrogens, glucocorticoids

Answer

(3) hCG, hPL, progestogens, estrogens

Solution

As per NCERT, the placenta also acts as an endocrine tissue and produces several hormones like human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), human placental lactogen (hPL), estrogens, progestogens, etc.

Relaxin is secreted by the ovary in the later phase of pregnancy; prolactin and oxytocin come from the pituitary, and glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex.

The placental hormones that maintain pregnancy are hCG, hPL, progestogens and estrogens.
