Two charges q1 and q2 are separated by a distance of 30 cm. A third charge q3 initially at 'C' as shown in the figure, is moved along the circular path of radius 40 cm from C to D. If the difference in potential energy due to movement of q3 from C to D is given by q3 K4 0, the value of K is : [figure]
- 6q2
- 6q1
- 8q1
- 8q2
Answer
(4) 8q2
Solution
q1 is at the centre A of the circular path, so its distance from q3 stays 40 cm: q1 gives no change in potential energy.
Distances of q3 from q2 (at B):
At C: BC = 302 + 402 = 50 cm = 0.5 m
At D: BD = 40 - 30 = 10 cm = 0.1 m
U = UD - UC = q2 q34 0 ( 10.1 - 10.5 )
= q34 0(10 - 2)q2 = q3 (8q2)4 0
∴ K = 8q2
