Diffuse porous wood is characteristic of those plants which are growing in :

  1. Tropics
  2. Temperate climate
  3. Alpine region
  4. Cold winter regions

Answer

(1) Tropics

Solution

In diffuse porous wood the vessels are of nearly uniform size and are scattered evenly through the whole growth ring.

∵ In the tropics the climate is uniform throughout the year, the cambium stays active all the time and forms similar vessels; there is no sharp difference between spring wood and autumn wood.

In temperate, alpine and cold-winter regions, as per NCERT, the cambium is very active in spring (wide vessels, early wood) and less active in winter (narrow vessels, late wood), giving ring porous wood with distinct annual rings.

∴ Diffuse porous wood is characteristic of plants growing in the tropics.
