[ Mn2(CO)10] and [Co2(CO)8] structures have Choose the correct answer from the options given below

  1. Only A, B, C
  2. Only B, C, D
  3. Only A, C, D
  4. Only A, B, D

Answer

(4) Only A, B, D

Solution

[ Mn2(CO)10]: two Mn(CO)5 units joined by a Mn–Mn bond; all ten CO groups are terminal; Mn is in the 0 oxidation state.

[Co2(CO)8]: a Co–Co bond, six terminal CO and two bridging CO groups; Co is in the 0 oxidation state.

Common to both: metal–metal linkage (A), terminal CO groups (B) and zero oxidation state (D). Bridging CO (C) is absent in [ Mn2(CO)10].
