Homo sapiens have evolved in

  1. Pleistocene
  2. Paleocene
  3. Oligocene
  4. Holocene

Answer

(4) Holocene

Solution

The Quaternary period is divided into the Pleistocene (ice ages) and the Holocene (Recent) epochs.

As per NCERT, modern Homo sapiens arose during the ice age between 75,000 – 10,000 years ago; pre-historic cave art developed about 18,000 years ago, and agriculture and human settlements started about 10,000 years back.

∴ Modern man, with settled life and civilisation, became established in the Holocene (Recent) epoch, the last 10,000 years.
