Initiation of lateral roots and vascular cambium during secondary growth takes place in cells of

  1. Pericycle
  2. Epiblema
  3. Cortex
  4. Endodermis

Answer

(1) Pericycle

Solution

In the dicot root, the pericycle is the few layers of thick-walled parenchymatous cells lying just inside the endodermis.

As per NCERT, initiation of lateral roots and vascular cambium during the secondary growth takes place in these cells of the pericycle.

Epiblema, cortex and endodermis do not give rise to lateral roots.
