Dissolution of the synaptonemal complex occurs during
- Diplotene
- Zygotene
- Pachytene
- Leptotene
Answer
(1) Diplotene
Solution
As per NCERT, the synaptonemal complex is formed during zygotene (synapsis) and persists through pachytene (crossing over).
⇒ The beginning of diplotene is recognised by the dissolution of the synaptonemal complex and the tendency of the recombined homologous chromosomes to separate from each other except at the sites of crossovers (chiasmata).
∴ Dissolution occurs during diplotene.
