Hydrolytic enzymes which act at low pH are called

  1. proteases
  2. -amylases
  3. hydrolases
  4. peroxidases.

Answer

(1) proteases

Solution

As per NCERT, HCl of the gastric juice provides the acidic pH (pH 1.8) optimal for pepsin, the proteolytic enzyme of the stomach.

⇒ Pepsin (a protease) acts at low pH and converts proteins into proteoses and peptones.

∵ Salivary -amylase acts at about pH 6.8, and peroxidases are not hydrolytic enzymes.

∴ Hydrolytic enzymes which act at low pH are proteases.
