What is the activation energy for a reaction if its rate doubles when the temperature is raised from 20 C to 35 C? (R = 8.314 J mol-1 K-1)

  1. 34.7 kJ mol-1
  2. 15.1 kJ mol-1
  3. 342 kJ mol-1
  4. 269 kJ mol-1

Answer

(1) 34.7 kJ mol-1

Solution

T1 = 293 K, T2 = 308 K, k2k1 = 2

As per NCERT, k2k1 = Ea2.303R ( T2 - T1T1T2 )

⇒ 2 = Ea2.303 8.314 ( 15293 308 )

⇒ Ea = 0.3010 2.303 8.314 293 30815

= 34,695 J mol-1

34.7 kJ mol-1
