1
Opening and closing of stomata is due to the
- hormonal change in guard cells
- change in turgor pressure of guard cells
- gaseous exchange
- respiration.
Answer
(2) change in turgor pressure of guard cells
Solution
As per NCERT, the immediate cause of the opening or closing of the stomata is a change in the turgidity of the guard cells.
⇒ When the guard cells become turgid, their thin outer walls bulge out and the stomatal pore opens.
⇒ When they lose turgor (become flaccid), the pore closes.
∴ Stomatal movement is due to change in turgor pressure of guard cells.
