The wavelength of photon 'A' is 400 nm. The frequency of photon 'B' is 1016 s-1. The wave number of photon 'C' is 104 cm-1. The correct order of energy of these photons is :

  1. A > C > B
  2. C > B > A
  3. B > A > C
  4. A > B > C

Answer

(3) B > A > C

Solution

E = h , so compare frequencies.

A: = c = 3 108400 10-9 = 7.5 1014 s-1

B: = 1016 s-1

C: = c = (3 1010 cm s-1)(104 cm-1) = 3 1014 s-1

B > A > C

Energy: B > A > C

Answer: (3)
