Electrons from excited chlorophyll molecule of photosystem II are accepted first by

  1. quinone
  2. ferredoxin
  3. cytochrome-b
  4. cytochrome-f

Answer

(1) quinone

Solution

As per NCERT, in photosystem II the reaction centre chlorophyll a absorbs 680 nm light, its electrons are excited and are picked up by an electron acceptor, which passes them to an electron transport system consisting of cytochromes.

⇒ This first acceptor of the electron transport chain is a quinone (plastoquinone).

∵ Cytochromes (b, f) come later in the chain and ferredoxin accepts electrons only after photosystem I.

Answer: (1)

The C4 plants are photosynthetically more efficient than C3 plants because

  1. the CO2 efflux is not prevented
  2. they have more chloroplasts
  3. the CO2 compensation point is more
  4. CO2 generated during photorespiration is trapped and recycled through PEP carboxylase
