What is the expected percentage of F2 progeny with yellow and inflated pod in dihybrid cross experiment involving pea plants with green coloured, inflated pod and yellow coloured constricted pod?

  1. 9%
  2. 100%
  3. 56.25%
  4. 18.75%

Answer

(4) 18.75%

Solution

In garden pea, green pod colour (G) is dominant over yellow (g) and inflated pod shape (I) is dominant over constricted (i).

Parents: green inflated (GGII) × yellow constricted (ggii) ⇒ F1: GgIi (green, inflated).

F1 F1 gives the dihybrid ratio 9 : 3 : 3 : 1.

Yellow and inflated = ggI (recessive colour, dominant shape)

= 14 34 = 316

∴ Percentage = 316 100 = 18.75\%
