Parts A, B, C and D of the human eye are shown in the diagram. Select the option which gives correct identification along with its functions/characteristics. [Figure]
- B - Blind spot - Has only a few rods and cones.
- A - Retina - Contains photoreceptors, i.e., rods and cones.
- C - Aqueous chamber - Reflects the light which does not pass through the lens.
- D - Choroid - Its anterior part forms ciliary body.
Answer
(2) A - Retina - Contains photoreceptors, i.e., rods and cones.
Solution
A is the innermost layer of the eye ball, the retina. As per NCERT, the retina contains three layers of cells (ganglion cells, bipolar cells and photoreceptor cells); the photoreceptors are the rods and cones.
(1) B is the blind spot, but it has no photoreceptor cells at all.
(3) The aqueous chamber (between the cornea and the lens) is filled with aqueous humor; it does not reflect light.
(4) D is the outermost layer, the sclera; the ciliary body is formed by the anterior part of the choroid, not the sclera.
