What is the work of copper T:

  1. To inhibit implantation of blastocyst
  2. To inhibit gametogenesis
  3. To inhibit fertilization
  4. To inhibit ovulation

Answer

(1) To inhibit implantation of blastocyst, (3) To inhibit fertilization

Solution

As per NCERT, copper-releasing IUDs (CuT, Cu7, Multiload 375) increase phagocytosis of sperms within the uterus, and the Cu ions released suppress sperm motility and the fertilising capacity of sperms ⇒ fertilisation is inhibited.

As per NCERT, IUDs also make the uterus unsuitable for implantation ⇒ implantation of the blastocyst is inhibited.

Copper T acts inside the uterus, not on the ovaries, so it neither inhibits gametogenesis nor ovulation.

Answer: (1), (3)
