A cell of emf 4 V and internal resistance 0.5 is connected to a 7.5 external resistance. The terminal potential difference of the cell is

  1. 0.375 V
  2. 3.75 V
  3. 4.25 V
  4. 4 V

Answer

(2) 3.75 V

Solution

Current: I = R + r = 47.5 + 0.5 = 0.5 A

Terminal potential difference: V = - Ir

= 4 - 0.5 0.5

= 3.75 V
