Which one of the following is a wrong matching of a microbe and its industrial product, while the remaining three are correct?

  1. Acetobacter aceti – acetic acid
  2. Clostridium butylicum – lactic acid
  3. Aspergillus niger – citric acid
  4. Yeast – statins

Answer

(2) Clostridium butylicum – lactic acid

Solution

As per NCERT, Aspergillus niger (a fungus) produces citric acid, Acetobacter aceti (a bacterium) produces acetic acid, Clostridium butylicum (a bacterium) produces butyric acid and Lactobacillus (a bacterium) produces lactic acid.

Statins are produced by the yeast Monascus purpureus, so yeast – statins is correct.

∴ Clostridium butylicum – lactic acid is the wrong matching.
