A normal woman, whose father was colour-blind is married to a normal man. The sons would be :-

  1. All colour-blind
  2. 75% colour-blind
  3. All normal
  4. 50% colour-blind

Answer

(4) 50% colour-blind

Solution

Colour blindness is a sex-linked (X-linked) recessive disorder.

∵ The woman is normal but her father was colour-blind, she received his Xc chromosome.

⇒ Woman = carrier, XXc; man = normal, XY.

⇒ Sons receive their X chromosome from the mother and Y from the father: XY (normal) : XcY (colour-blind) = 1 : 1

∴ 50% of the sons would be colour-blind.
