Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 4 April (Morning Shift)

The magnetic field existing in a region is given by B=0.2(1+2x) k. A square loop of edge 50 cm carrying 0.5 A current is placed in x-y plane with its edges parallel to the x-y axes, as shown in figure. The magnitude of the net magnetic force experienced by the loop is mN. [figure]

Answer

50

Solution

F=I l B; loop from x=2 m to x=2.5 m.

Top and bottom edges: same field pattern, opposite currents forces cancel.

[figure]

Left edge (x=2, B=1 T): F1=0.5 0.5 1=0.25 N along -x

Right edge (x=2.5, B=1.2 T): F2=0.5 0.5 1.2=0.30 N along +x

Fnet=0.30-0.25=0.05 N=50 mN

Answer: 50
