Signals from fully developed foetus and placenta ultimately lead to parturition which requires the release of

  1. Oxytocin from maternal pituitary
  2. Oxytocin from foetal pituitary
  3. Relaxin from placenta
  4. Estrogen from placenta

Answer

(1) Oxytocin from maternal pituitary

Solution

As per NCERT, the signals for parturition originate from the fully developed foetus and the placenta, which induce mild uterine contractions called the foetal ejection reflex.

⇒ This triggers the release of oxytocin from the maternal pituitary.

⇒ Oxytocin acts on the uterine muscle and causes stronger uterine contractions, which in turn stimulate further secretion of oxytocin, leading to expulsion of the baby.

∴ Parturition requires oxytocin from the maternal pituitary.
